"Revolutionizing Photon Detection with Self-Powered Perovskite Detectors"

Researchers have developed self-powered perovskite photon-counting detectors (PCDs) that can rival commercial silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) for photon counting. The PCDs can collect gamma-ray spectra with better energy resolution than SiPMs and maintain performance at high temperatures up to 85°C. The photon-counting capability of perovskite PCDs is mainly determined by shallow traps, which can be reduced by grain-size enhancement and surface passivation using diphenyl sulfide, respectively. This greatly suppresses dark count rate, enabling much better response to weak light than SiPMs.
