Meta Unveils Realistic Holographic Avatars and Project Phoenix Headset at Connect 2026
Meta has officially launched its holographic avatar technology, bringing photorealistic digital likenesses to its new VR glasses and Ray-Ban Display frames. The feature, powered by the Muse Realtime Avatar model, allows users to create full-body or face-only avatars via smartphone scans or inward-facing sensors. While the technology is in an early preview stage with limited cross-device compatibility, it marks a significant leap from previous cartoon-style avatars. The launch coincides with the debut of Project Phoenix, a lightweight mixed-reality headset designed to support these advanced avatar interactions.
