Netflix Drops Derby Clock in MLB Debut Broadcast
Netflix, in its first year of a roughly $50 million-per-year MLB broadcast deal, is removing the Home Run Derby clock for the first time since 2014. Hitters will have fixed swing limits—20 swings in the first round and 15 in each of the final two rounds—with the option to swing until an out if they homer on the last swing of a round. Ties in round one will be broken by the longest homer, and in rounds two and three by a three-swing playoff. Netflix aims to emphasize the on-field product after mixed feedback, with this year’s Derby set for July 13 at Citizens Bank Park.
