New images surfaced from HorizonOS showing Meta's Project Phoenix, a lightweight, glasses-like mixed-reality headset that appears to be tethered to a puck and likely uses hand-tracking rather than a controller. The device marks a departure from Quest form factors and could be teased at Meta's Connect event on Sept. 23, with a potential 2027 release window still in play.
Leak visuals from Horizon OS suggest Meta’s next-gen mixed reality headset, codenamed Project Phoenix, will be a slim, glasses-like standalone device with adjustable lens spacing, front/side sensors, and built-in eye/hand tracking, plus prescription-lens support via Zenni Optical. The design hints at a hybrid, tethered compute model and a shift toward pro/enterprise use, with a full reveal anticipated at Meta Connect on Sept. 23–24, 2026.
A recent app listing for the XR fitness app Alo Moves XR has seemingly confirmed the name of Meta's next VR headset as 'Quest 3S'. Meanwhile, Meta has reduced the price of the Quest 2 and plans to release its XR operating system to third-party manufacturers, including ASUS, Lenovo, and Xbox.
