UPMC Children's Hospital plans expansion in Lawrenceville.

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh plans to build a 50,000-square-foot addition atop an existing parking structure at its Lawrenceville campus to accommodate the growing Heart Institute and new medical technology. The proposed space would include inpatient and outpatient procedural and diagnostic spaces, conference areas, and waiting and reception rooms. The project is expected to take about two years to complete and would not impact the current helipad flight path. The hospital wants to start construction late this year and open the facility by December 2025.

The hospital has also opened a 10-bed wing for adolescents. Eating disorders can involve restricting food intake and/or increasing physical activity to keep body weight dangerously low. Nearly 29 million people in the US will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. Eating disorders usually develop in adolescence and young adulthood and are more common in young women, but they can occur at any age in any gender.
