Discovery of Two New Streptomyces Phages Unveils Novel Camvirus Species

Two new species of Streptomyces phages, named Vanseggelen and Verabelle, have been discovered and characterized. These temperate phages belong to the genus Camvirus and have long non-contractile tails and icosahedral capsid heads. The genomes of Vanseggelen and Verabelle have been fully sequenced, revealing their genetic makeup and potential coding sequences. The host range analysis showed that both phages can infect various Streptomyces strains, indicating their ability to switch between a lytic and lysogenic lifecycle. These findings contribute to our understanding of phage-host dynamics in Streptomyces and expand the available knowledge on sequenced and characterized Streptomyces phages.
