King Charles III attended the State Opening of Parliament at the Palace of Westminster wearing the Imperial State Crown, a rare choice for the ceremony as he delivered the Monarch’s Speech in the Robe of State; Queen Camilla also wore a historic headpiece, the Diamond Diadem, continuing royal fashion traditions at the event.
King Charles III will wear two crowns for his coronation on May 6th: St. Edward's Crown, which weighs five pounds and is an enduring symbol of the British monarchy, and the State Imperial Crown, which is slightly smaller and lighter, adorned with 2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and 5 rubies. Queen Camilla will wear Queen Mary's Crown, which was made for the consort of George V in 1911 and is mounted with 2,200 diamonds. The Koh-i-Noor diamond has been replaced by more Cullinan diamonds from the Queen's private collection.
