"Safely Watching the 'Ring of Fire' Solar Eclipse: Tips and Locations"
A rare annular solar eclipse, also known as the 'ring of fire' eclipse, will be visible across parts of the United States on Saturday, October 14. NASA advises that it is never safe to look directly at the sun during an eclipse without specialized eye protection. Regular sunglasses are not sufficient. Approved solar viewing glasses or handheld solar viewers should be used. NASA provides guidelines for safe eclipse glasses and warns against using cameras, binoculars, or telescopes with eclipse glasses. If eclipse glasses are not available, an indirect viewing method such as a pinhole eclipse projector can be used. It is safe to view the eclipse without eye protection only during totality, when the sun is completely covered by the moon.
