Indo-Pacific Destroyer Suffers Hours-Long Power Outage; Crew Safe
A US Navy Arleigh Burke–class destroyer, USS Higgins, experienced an electrical casualty that caused a loss of power and propulsion for several hours in the Indo-Pacific. The outage left the ship electronically blind and immobile, with a crew of about 300; there were no injuries. Initial reports point to an electrical malfunction with possible sparking or smoke that ceased after power was removed. Power and propulsion have since been restored, but the exact location within the Indo-Pacific region and the cause remain under investigation.
