Bertha's inland rain plume spawns heavy rainfall over NC and VA
Tropical Storm Bertha, after making landfall near New Orleans, carried a widespread moisture plume that stretched far inland, triggering a Level 3 (out of 4) excessive rainfall risk from Raleigh, NC to near Virginia Beach, with a broader Level 2 area including Atlanta and Charlotte. The plume even reached Newfoundland, and Lake Charles, LA recorded a heat index of 121°F as temperatures and humidity surged.
