Denver Runway Intrusion Reveals Airport Perimeter Gaps
A 41-year-old man bypassed Denver International Airport’s perimeter, scaling an 8-foot fence in about 15 seconds and entering a runway just before a Frontier Airlines takeoff. He was fatally struck by a jet, causing an engine fire and evacuations for 224 passengers and seven crew, with 12 minor injuries. The medical examiner ruled the intruder’s death a suicide. Aviation experts say the breach highlights a perimeter-security weakness and may prompt new safety measures, though some officials argue such incidents are rare and costly defenses may not be feasible. The airport maintains security is strong, but the event is expected to trigger reviews and potential lawsuits from passengers.
