Record €5m Wine Heist Strikes Historic Antinori Winery in Tuscany
A gang of at least seven masked individuals stole 30,000 bottles of high-value wine worth €5m from the Marchesi Antinori winery in Cortona, Tuscany. The theft, discovered on Monday morning, involved disabling alarms and using company forklifts to load two trucks with 2023 vintage bottles, including Solaia and Tignanello. CEO Renzo Cotarella called it the largest wine theft in Italian history, noting that Tuscan road cameras may aid recovery. The incident highlights a recent surge in wine thefts in Italy, though this scale is unprecedented. No arrests have been made, and the company has warned customers against buying its wine through unofficial channels.
