Deadly Nepal Earthquake Claims Dozens of Lives

At least 69 people were killed and dozens injured in Nepal when a strong earthquake struck the western area of Jajarkot. The quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.4, was later downgraded to 5.7 by the German Research Centre for Geosciences. Rescue and search teams are facing difficulties reaching the affected areas due to blocked roads caused by dry landslides. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has ordered immediate rescue and relief operations. Tremors were felt in neighboring districts and as far away as New Delhi, India. In 2015, Nepal experienced two devastating earthquakes that resulted in the deaths of around 9,000 people.
