La Bola Negra Wins TIFF Audience Award, Bolting Oscar Momentum
Spanish queer epic 'La Bola Negra' won the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award, a key indicator for Oscar success. Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the film follows three men across three eras and is Spain’s official submission for the International Feature category. Netflix, which acquired US rights after a bidding war, will release the film in theaters on October 16, 2026. The award marks the first foreign-language winner since 2011, with 'I Play Rocky' and 'Being Heumann' as runners-up.
