Contract Disputes and Personal Friction Drove Jeffrey Hunter's Exit from Star Trek
Jeffrey Hunter left the original Star Trek pilot in 1965 due to unresolved contract negotiations, leading to William Shatner's casting as Captain Kirk. While Leonard Nimoy cited Hunter's desire for movie roles, other accounts blame his wife's demands. Hunter received a partial payment for the initial footage, which was later repurposed for the episode 'The Menagerie.'
