UK warns of mass Israeli diplomat expulsion if East Jerusalem consulate closes
The UK has warned Israel it will expel 27 Israeli diplomats, including their families, if Israel closes the British consulate in East Jerusalem on October 8. This threat follows Israel’s decision to retaliate against UK sanctions on West Bank settlements. UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell recently visited Israel to prevent the closure but failed to reach an agreement. The move marks a significant deterioration in diplomatic ties, with Israel accusing the UK of interfering in its upcoming elections.
