Cardinals erupt in 17-1 rout at Wrigley, rewriting history against Cubs
The St. Louis Cardinals crushed the Chicago Cubs 17-1 at Wrigley Field, one of the franchise’s most lopsided wins there and a rare 17-plus run effort in the ballpark since 1920. Six Cardinals had multi-hit games, including José Fermín (two doubles) and Masyn Winn, while Nathan Church hit a three-run homer as Andre Pallante pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. The outburst, aided by patient at-bats and timely hits, produced a lead as large as 17-0 and marked a historic night for the Cardinals.
