Nootbaar Leads D-backs to Offensive Outburst in San Francisco

Lars Nootbaar kicked off Arizona’s 10-6 win in San Francisco with a leadoff homer off blade Tidwell, part of a multi-run surge that included a five-run third and a three-run sixth. Nootbaar, the D-backs’ lone trade-deadline acquisition and coming off a rough stretch, finished with several hard-hit balls as Arizona’s offense woke up. The win narrows the NL Wild Card race, placing the D-backs within a half-game of the Padres, with a doubleheader on tap the next day.

Diamondbacks land Lars Nootbaar to bolster lineup vs right-handed pitching

Arizona acquired outfielder Lars Nootbaar from the Cardinals for pitching prospects Daniel Eagen and Sandro Santana plus a player to be named later, and cleared 40-man space by moving Zac Gallen to the 60-day IL. Nootbaar, 28, is a lefty with elite on-base skills and strong platoon splits, expected to boost Arizona’s performance versus right-handed pitching as it pursues an NL Wild Card spot. He will be a free agent after 2027. The D-backs’ deadline move comes amid injuries and a PED-suspension affecting other players like Max Kepler.

Padres Push for Left-Handed Bats as Deadline Approaches

The San Diego Padres are actively seeking a left-handed bat before the trade deadline, with reported discussions involving Trevor Larnach of Minnesota and potential targets Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar of St. Louis. They’ve already added left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray from the Giants but could use another reliable lefty in the lineup behind Ray and Michael King, with Gavin Sheets and rookie Jase Bowen in the mix in left field.

Cardinals Eye Trade Winds: May On the Move as Nootbaar Draws Interest

The Cardinals are reportedly shopping right-hander Dustin May ahead of the trade deadline, with the Rays and Phillies among clubs that sent scouts to his latest start; May has a 4.38 ERA over 109 innings but strong underlying metrics (FIP ~3.14, xFIP ~3.88, SIERA ~3.95) and a fastball near 97 mph, a profile built on durability after past injuries. St. Louis is also hearing heavy interest in outfielder Lars Nootbaar, who has drawn inquiries from the Phillies, Yankees and others; Nootbaar, 28, is under control at a $5.25M salary in 2026. With the Cardinals 15 games back in the NL Central and in playoff contention wobbling, a deal before Monday’s deadline seems likely for at least one of these players, while teams weigh him as more than a rental given his defense and upside.

"Cardinals' Concerns: Injuries, Delays, and Tough Updates"

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol provided updates on injured players, with outfielder Lars Nootbaar nearing a return after playing a full game in Triple-A. Nootbaar's return could bolster the team's outfield production, which has been hampered by injuries to Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson. Edman and Carlson have not resumed baseball activities, but could receive clearance after upcoming check-ups. Additionally, right-hander Keynan Middleton received a PRP injection in his elbow and is expected to resume baseball activities soon, aiming to join the Cardinals' late-inning bullpen mix.

"Cardinals' Outfield Uncertainty: Nootbaar Sidelined with Rib Fractures"
