Loktev's 11-Hour Documentary on Exiled Russian Journalists Premieres Amid Democratic Backsliding
Julia Loktev’s two-part documentary 'My Undesirable Friends' has completed its 11-hour run, premiering in U.S. theaters via Mubi. The film chronicles the exile of TV Rain journalists after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting their struggle to maintain independent media in Europe. Meryl Streep serves as executive producer, having been persuaded by Colin Firth to watch the lengthy project. The narrative serves as a warning to American audiences about the fragility of democratic institutions and the ease with which authoritarianism can erode press freedom.
