
Kaempferol slows spaceflight knee cartilage damage in mice
A University of Pittsburgh–led study reported that mice exposed to spaceflight-like conditions (ISS and ground-based microgravity with radiation) developed knee cartilage damage, but oral kaempferol reduced cartilage loss, preserved mitochondria, and lowered inflammation by inhibiting NOX4-driven oxidative stress. While promising for long-duration spaceflight and insights into knee osteoarthritis, the findings are preliminary—no human testing and dietary kaempferol effects remain unproven.
