Gainwell Exits Steelers for Buccaneers After 2025 Breakout
Kenneth Gainwell, who emerged as Pittsburgh’s most dynamic offensive weapon in the 2025 season, left in free agency to sign a two-year, $14 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers replaced him with Rico Dowdle as Jaylen Warren remains a key back and Kaleb Johnson was drafted. Gainwell has said he initially wanted to play in Pittsburgh but is grateful for the opportunity in Tampa, and his 2025 production helped showcase his abilities. The Steelers hope Dowdle and Warren can carry the load as Johnson develops.
