Largest Jehol Therizinosaur Found: Kayrasaurus changliensis in China
Scientists describe Kayrasaurus changliensis, a new therizinosaur from the Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota in northeastern China, based on a near-complete skeleton from the Yixian Formation. At about 3.6 meters long and with tiny, densely packed teeth, it is the largest Jehol therizinosaur yet and suggests two ecological strategies among Jehol therizinosaurs—robust body plans with emphasis on oral processing, and more agile forms—though researchers caution that more fossils are needed to test these ideas.
