Dell PCs hit by Windows 11 KB5101650 pause due to Intel IPF driver issues
Microsoft has temporarily paused the Windows 11 security update KB5101650 on certain Dell PCs due to problems with Intel IPF drivers that can cause overheating, performance issues, and unexpected shutdowns. Affected Dell models include Pro Max 14/16 Premium (MA14250/MA16250), Precision 7 series (PW714260/PW716260), Precision 5470/5480/5490/5770, and XPS 17 9720/9730. Dell warns to exclude these devices from updates until a new patch is released, and users may see a yellow alert for the Framework Processor Participant driver in Device Manager. Microsoft notes that forcing the update can worsen issues, and the root cause is linked to a new USB-C Connection Manager interface incompatible with Intel’s driver; the three companies are working on a fix with the update expected to roll out to affected PCs soon.
