Dell laptops get emergency Windows 11 patch to fix shutdowns and overheating
Microsoft released an emergency Windows 11 update, KB5121767, to replace the July 2026 KB5101650 on Dell systems affected by shutdowns, poor performance, overheating, and battery drain. The patch is recommended only for those Dell devices, but it may auto-download on other PCs if the Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available toggle is on. If you aren’t affected, you can skip it and disable automatic updates; affected Dell models include Pro Max 14 Premium, Pro Max 16 Premium, Precision 7 14, Precision 7 16, Precision 5470/5480/5490/5770, and XPS 17 9720/9730.
