Two Wabasha firefighters among three killed in Lake Pepin pontoon collision
Three people died after a pontoon collided with a commercial barge on Lake Pepin near Pepin, Wisconsin, with all victims from Wabasha, Minnesota. The deceased were Ashley Monson, Manuel De Angel-Sola, and Nicholas Loechler, and two of them were Wabasha firefighters. Rescue crews had pulled three survivors from the overturned pontoon, and the bodies of the other three were recovered on Sunday. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday; authorities said no campers or YMCA staff were involved.
