Army targets fast-track for ISV-Heavy competition to power mobile command posts

The Army will release proposal requests for the ISV-Heavy in Q4 2026 to accelerate fielding of a heavy, non-developmental variant of the Infantry Squad Vehicle that can power command posts with up to 60 kW of continuous high-voltage DC power, 15 kW of 28V DC power, and 4.8 kW of 120V AC power. The effort emphasizes commercially available solutions with minimal modifications, with GM Defense as the current ISV supplier and potential competition anticipated as the Army pursues roughly 606 heavy ISVs overall (34 in FY2027). The service plans to award the contract in September 2027 and deliver the first units around January 2028.

Italy Boosts Military Power with Leopard Combat Tanks and Ariete Upgrades

Italy plans to purchase 133 new German-built Leopard tanks and upgrade 125 of its aging Ariete tanks in order to enhance its land capabilities amid the Ukraine conflict. The country currently has 200 Ariete tanks, of which only 50 are operational. The purchase of the Leopard tanks, along with the upgrade of the Arietes, is estimated to cost around 8 billion euros. Italy aims to meet NATO requirements for more than 250 battle tanks and hopes that the acquisition will facilitate its involvement in the Franco-German Main Ground Combat System initiative.
