Hiker Discovers 2,000 Year Old Buried Treasure.
A hiker stumbled upon a treasure trove of 175 ancient Roman coins while walking in a newly cleared part of a forest in Livorno, Italy. The silver coins date back over 2,000 years, with the oldest from about 157 B.C. and the newest from 82 B.C. The coins were found buried underground and may have been the savings of a soldier returning home from military service or hidden by a wealthy merchant. The coins will soon be on display at the Museum of Natural History of the Mediterranean in the Province of Livorno.
