
MLB opens talks with hard cap, floor and centralizing local media in new proposal
MLB owners, in their opening economic proposal, outline a hard salary cap of $245.3 million and a floor of $171.2 million with a 50-50 revenue split, using average annual values. The plan would subject player pay to an escrow system and treat local-media revenues as central revenue to address the sport’s payroll disparity, aiming for a 2027 implementation; the MLBPA has not yet commented.
