"UAW Strikes: Impact on US Economy and Automakers"
The United Auto Workers' strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis has cost the U.S. economy over $9 billion, surpassing the previous record for an auto industry strike. The strike has resulted in lost wages of $488 million for workers, $4.18 billion in losses for automakers, $1.86 billion for dealers and customers, and over $2.78 billion for suppliers. Layoffs among supplier firms have also occurred. The strike, which began on September 15, has led to the shutdown of production lines and layoffs at other plants. The union believes there is more to be gained from the automakers despite receiving record offers.
