Hamilton could not improve enough to prevent the front three; Leclerc was fifth, Russell sixth and Piastri seventh as the rest of the top 10 followed (Lawson, Colapinto, Lindblad). Sainz and Alonso were eliminated in Q1, with Sainz's 17th place and an ongoing impeding investigation that could cost grid positions. Norris said the lap came from staying relaxed and in the flow, while Madrid's Madring street circuit looked risky but offered a thrilling finale to qualifying.
