Uncovering Mars' Watery Past: Perseverance Rover's Findings
The Mars rover Perseverance, part of the Mars 2020 mission, has been busy exploring the Jezero Crater on Mars for over two years. Equipped with various scientific instruments, including cameras, a ground-penetrating radar, and a drill, Perseverance has been studying the igneous bedrock of the crater floor. The rocks observed so far have been divided into two major layers, with the upper layer formed from lavas and the lower layer showing distinct textures and minerals. By studying intact igneous bedrock, scientists hope to answer questions raised by Martian meteorites and gain insights into Mars' geological history and the possibility of past water and life on the planet.
