Akron Zips Select CFO Marty Whims II for Viral 'Offensive Coordinator of Game' Contest
Marty Whims II, a Cleveland-based real estate executive and University of Akron accounting graduate, has been selected as the winner of the Zips' 'Offensive Coordinator of the Game' contest. He will collaborate with head coach Joe Moorhead to script the opening series for the team's home opener against Robert Morris on September 12. The promotion, which generated national attention and boosted season-ticket sales, involved a random drawing from season-ticket holders. Moorhead plans to provide Whims with a detailed scouting report and play options, ensuring the experience is substantive rather than a mere publicity stunt. The contest was managed by the UA College of Business and George W. Daverio School of Accountancy, with nine finalists announced in August before Whims was revealed as the winner.
