Google Finalizes $1.5B Talent Acquisition of AI Coding Startup Mechanize
Google has completed a talent acquisition deal with San Francisco-based AI startup Mechanize, valued at over $1.5 billion. The agreement brings Mechanize’s co-founder and former CEO, Tamay Besiroglu, into Google’s DeepMind division as a research scientist, along with more than a dozen other former employees. This move aims to strengthen Google’s capabilities in AI coding and model midtraining, areas where the company has faced competitive challenges. The deal follows earlier negotiations and aligns with Google’s strategy of using talent acquisitions to avoid antitrust scrutiny while securing critical AI expertise.
