Green Bay Packers Execute Unprecedented In-Season Offensive Line Overhaul

The Green Bay Packers have signed three new offensive linemen during the 2026 season, a move described as unprecedented in franchise history. Following a 1-2 start and severe protection issues for quarterback Jordan Love, the team added Laken Tomlinson, Mekhi Becton, and Kevin Zeitler. This rapid roster change follows a 35-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons and suggests significant internal pressure on coaching and front office staff.

Packers Inject Experience with Becton, Tomlinson Amid O-Line Crisis

The Green Bay Packers have aggressively reshuffled their roster to address a severe offensive line crisis, signing veteran guard Laken Tomlinson to the active roster and former first-round pick Mekhi Becton to the practice squad. These moves follow a disastrous 1-2 start where the line failed to protect quarterback Jordan Love and generate a viable rushing attack. With starting left guard Aaron Banks injured and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele placed on injured reserve, the team is relying on experienced veterans to stabilize the unit. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that while the new players may not start immediately due to learning curves, the team is prioritizing fundamental improvements in run blocking and pass protection to salvage the season.

Giants eye five released veterans to bolster 2026 roster

With cap space opened by releasing Bobby Okereke and James Hudson, the Giants are eyeing five freed players—Tremaine Edmunds, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Darnell Mooney, Alec Ingold, and Mekhi Becton—for 2026 free agency. Edmunds and Davis-Gaither would upgrade linebacker depth, Mooney adds a downfield threat, Ingold brings a traditional fullback option, and Becton offers a massive, potentially resurging offensive lineman; league prices and Slayton’s contract may influence how aggressively the Giants pursue them.

Chargers part ways with Dissly and Becton, boosting cap room for 2026

Los Angeles Chargers released tight end Will Dissly and offensive guard Mekhi Becton, while waiving Savion Washington, freeing about $13.7 million in 2026 cap space (roughly $98 million available). Becton was due a $2.5 million roster bonus after signing a two-year, $20 million deal last offseason; Dissly contributed 61 receptions for 578 yards and 2 touchdowns over two seasons, with limited production in 2025 due to injuries. With these moves, Oronde Gadsden is the only tight end currently under contract, and the team will need a starting right guard for 2026.

Chargers to release Mekhi Becton, freeing roughly $9.7M in cap space

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Chargers plan to release Mekhi Becton after a two-year, non-guaranteed deal for 2026, which would clear about $9.7 million in cap space while leaving $2.5 million in dead money. Becton played 15 games at right guard for the Chargers this season and started their playoff loss to the Patriots; the 2020 Jets first-round pick had previously found a starting role with the Eagles in 2024 and helped them to a Super Bowl win, setting up his move to the Chargers.
