Cubs Lefty Boyd to Undergo Knee Surgery, Placed on IL
Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd will undergo surgery for a left knee meniscus issue and has been placed on the 15-day injured list, with timetable TBD after the procedure. Trent Thornton was recalled to take his spot on the roster, while Charlie Barnes was DFA’d to clear a 40-man slot. Boyd started six innings of two-run ball against the Diamondbacks before the injury, which was first noticed while he was playing with his kids and confirmed by MRI.
