ASUS has begun retail sales of its ROG Rapture GT-BN98 series in Canada, marking the first commercial availability of Wi-Fi 8 routers globally. The flagship Pro model costs approximately $1,300 CAD, with a worldwide release scheduled for October. The hardware features quad-band support, up to 30 Gbps throughput, and multi-gigabit wired ports, though the underlying IEEE standard is not yet ratified.
In anticipation of President's Day, several mesh systems and Wi-Fi routers are on sale, including the Eero Pro 6, TP-Link Deco XE75, Asus ROG Rapture GT6, TP-Link Deco BE63, Asus RT-AXE7800, and Archer AX55. These devices offer various features such as Wi-Fi 6E, tri-band connectivity, and multiple gigabit ports, catering to different needs and budgets.
The Asus RT-AXE7800 is a reliable tri-band router that offers faster speeds than most mesh systems for smaller homes or apartments. It has excellent Wi-Fi 6E support for devices capable of connecting on the 6-GHz band, which can provide big jumps in speed and stability in congested areas. The router includes solid parental controls and network security for free, making it a good buy for those who don't want to pay for expensive subscriptions. While it is quite pricey, it performs well and harbors no hidden fees.
