Obama backs El-Sayed in Detroit as Michigan midterms hinge on Black vote
Former President Barack Obama rallied in Detroit on Oct. 24 to support Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson, marking the start of early voting in Michigan. Obama addressed a crowd of roughly 4,000 at Cass Technical High School, urging voters to reject President Donald Trump’s administration and support a 'course correction' in Congress. The event aimed to unify the Democratic party after a contentious primary and energize Black voters in Detroit, a critical demographic in the tight Senate race against Republican Mike Rogers. While Obama praised El-Sayed’s values, he acknowledged past policy disagreements, particularly regarding healthcare. Trump is scheduled to counter-rally in Port Huron on Oct. 25.
