San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Mikail Kamara, an undrafted free agent from Indiana who previously starred at James Madison, was carted off the practice field with an apparent knee injury during training camp, as he competes for a roster spot as a pass rusher and on special teams.
The 49ers signed eight undrafted free agents, led by Indiana edge Mikail Kamara, who in 2024 posted 10 sacks and a nation-leading 68 total quarterback pressures, suggesting a fit for Kris Kocurek’s rush-heavy scheme. Kamara is not a prototype edge (roughly 6-1 with limited length), but his production in a similar system helped him secure a UDFA deal as the team braces for injuries to Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams. He’ll join former Indiana teammate CJ West on the defensive line, and will compete with fellow UDFA and veteran depth (Height, Keion White, Cameron Sample, Sam Okuayinonu, William Bradley-King, Andrew Farmer II) for a spot on the 90-man offseason roster and, eventually, the 53-man roster.
