New Study Links Mini-Stroke to 34% Higher Long-Term Dementia Risk
A large observational study published in Neurology finds that individuals who experience a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or mini-stroke, face a 34% higher risk of developing dementia over 20 years compared to those without such events. While the risk is highest in the first year, it remains elevated long-term, suggesting that post-TIA care should prioritize cognitive health alongside stroke prevention.
