Three UAEM Female Students Murdered in Seven Months Highlight Mexico's Femicide Crisis
Three Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) students — Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, 21; Kimberly Ramos, 18; and Karol Toledo, 18 — have been killed in the past seven months, underscoring a surge of femicides in Morelos. Tacoronte, a Spanish exchange student, was deemed a femicide after a stabbing during a suspected phone robbery; Ramos was killed by her ex‑boyfriend, who has been arrested, and Toledo was found shot dead with no arrest yet. The deaths coincide with a broader pattern of violence against women in the state, which logged 69 female murders from January to July 2026. The cases prompted international attention and a UAEM response, including Granada University suspending its transfer program with UAEM. A separate high‑profile missing case, 15‑year‑old Michelle Fuentes, who disappeared in May and was found dead in June, further highlights safety concerns for young people in the region.
