NYC Marathon alters Bronx route for 50th anniversary to ease community disruption
The New York City Marathon will modify its course for the first time in 15 years, adjusting the Bronx segment to reduce community disruption. Announced by New York Road Runners (NYRR) on September 22, 2026, the change coincides with the race’s 50th anniversary. The new route reruns runners through a less congested part of Mott Haven, cutting the number of turns in the borough from seven to five. This adjustment aims to restore access to local businesses, including a supermarket and laundromat, and improve access to the NYCHA Patterson Houses. Over 60,000 runners are expected to participate in the November 1 race, the highest attendance in the event's history.
