"Collaborative Efforts Unite Theoretical and Experimental Physics in the Quest for Particle Flavor Transformation"

Scientists are conducting two new experiments, Mu2e at Fermilab and COMET at J-PARC, to search for negatively charged muons decaying into electrons, which would violate the standard model. These experiments are 10,000 times more sensitive than previous searches and may provide insights into interactions beyond the standard model. By carefully selecting nuclear targets, researchers can measure six independent observables that represent the "fingerprint" of new physics. The results of these experiments will provide valuable clues about possible physics missing from the standard model.
