Drapatyi Named Ukraine’s New Commander-in-Chief, Promising Change and Accountability
Forty-three-year-old Mykhailo Drapatyi has been named Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, succeeding Oleksandr Syrskyi. A veteran of frontline operations from Mariupol to Kryvyi Rih, he is widely viewed as both humane and decisive. Drapatyi previously led Ukraine’s Joint Forces and, before that, the Land Forces, stepping into the top role after a deadly 2024 training-ground strike prompted his resignation and later a return to command.
