Second Note Claims Nancy Guthrie Is Dead, Sparks Family Plea for Return of Remains

Deadline reports that a second note regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance claimed she had died; the note, sent to TMZ and KOLD-TV, offered no apology or request for payment for the release of her remains. Sheriff: Motive Suspected in Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping, No Suspect Yet

Arizona authorities say they know why Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped and believe the crime was targeted, but no suspect has been identified. The 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie vanished from a Tucson home on February 1; clues include DNA evidence and ransom notes, while a masked man pictured on a doorbell camera remains the sole public image of the suspected kidnapper. The sheriff warned the suspect could strike again as the investigation continues, and Savannah Guthrie has offered a $1 million reward for information. Several people have been detained in connection with the case, but none have led to an arrest in the actual disappearance; a California man charged over fake ransom notes is not believed involved.
