Lionsgate and Sony Greenlight Destin Daniel Cretton’s Live-Action 'Naruto' for 2027
Lionsgate has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of the 'Naruto' manga, partnering with Sony Pictures for co-financing and international distribution. Destin Daniel Cretton, fresh from the $2.5 billion success of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' will write, direct, and produce the film. Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with Charles Melton cast as Kakashi Hatake and the lead role of Naruto still in search. The deal follows a competitive bidding process, leveraging Sony’s global reach and Crunchyroll’s anime expertise alongside Lionsgate’s domestic distribution and development oversight.
