House OKs $1.15T Defense Bill in Narrow, Partisan Vote
The House narrowly approved its fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, a roughly $1.15 trillion Pentagon budget, by a 216-212 vote with a handful of cross-party votes. The package would authorize a 5%–7% troop pay raise, grow the active-duty force, and include a provision to rename nine southern bases back to their pre-Confederate names, along with a plan to rename the Department of Defense as the Department of War.
