Backyard astronomer captures dramatic Eyes in Markarian's Chain
Amateur astrophotographer Ronald Brecher, working from his Guelph, Canada backyard, produced a high-resolution image of Markarian’s Chain in the Virgo Cluster after more than nine and a half hours of exposure with a Skywatcher Esprit 120 and a dedicated astronomy camera. The shot highlights the interacting galaxies NGC 4438 and NGC 4435, nicknamed the Eyes, revealing prominent tidal features, dust lanes, and a variety of galactic colors that illustrate the dynamic environment and gravitational interactions shaping this dense region.
