Max Verstappen, steering the Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, has put his team in contention for its debut Nurburgring 24 Hours win by taking a narrow lead in mixed conditions after almost nine hours. The #3 Mercedes sits about one second clear of the sister #80 AMG (Martin/Engel/Schiller/Stolz), with a tight fight behind including a Walkenhorst Aston Martin (Thiim) in third, Jens Klingmann’s Schubert BMW in fourth, and Max Hesse’s Rowe BMW rounding out the top five. Early incidents included Mirko Bortolotti’s Lamborghini puncture and Marco Mapelli’s 32-second penalty for a jump start, while Verstappen capitalized on clean laps and traffic management to extend his advantage into the night.
Porsche’s Manthey Kit upgrades the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package for circuit use, boosting power to 600 kW (with Attack Mode up to 730 kW) and increasing downforce; Lars Kern set a 6:55.533 lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the fastest electric-executive car to date, beating the previous record by nine seconds (and his own prior lap by 12 seconds). The retrofit kit will be available from June for Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package and includes aero, suspension, wheels, tires and powertrain updates.
A Manthey Racing kit for the Porsche 911 GT3 lapped the Nordschleife in 6:50.863, about 1.2 seconds faster than the road-going Ford Mustang GTD and nearly five seconds quicker than the pre-update 992.1, with Ayhancan Güven delivering the run in favorable conditions while Corvette ZR1X still led in a different Prototype/Pre-Production class.
