Family Sues Oakland Police, Paramedics Over Doug Martin’s Custody Death
The family of former NFL running back Doug Martin filed a federal lawsuit in Northern California against the city of Oakland, five police officers, and the ambulance company Falck USA, alleging his October 2025 death in police custody was caused by restraint asphyxia and delayed medical care, with eight claims including wrongful death, assault and battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress; they say officers restrained him face-down, did not provide prompt medical attention, and paramedics arrived more than 15 minutes after the 911 call.
