Scientists Warn of Extreme Impacts as Record Ocean Temperatures Reach Uncharted Territory
Global sea surfaces hit record temperatures this April, with mercury levels rising at a pace never seen before. Further, the likelihood of a strong El Niño event appearing in the next few months looms over us, and this double whammy of ocean heating may well lead to the coming years being Earth’s warmest on record. The heating could result in the loss of marine species, more extreme weather, sea-level rise, and coastal flooding.
